Everton 3 – 1 Man Utd

Manchester United’s Premier League title challenge was dealt a major blow at Everton with a 3-1 win over the champions at Goodison Park.

United looked lethargic after their fighting mid-week victory against AC Milan and looked a shadow of that side as they fell to their first defeat in nine league games.

The result left United in second spot again, one point behind leaders Chelsea, who can will invariably beat Wolves later in the afternoon.

It was Dimitar Berbatov who put United ahead in the 16th minute when he killed Valencia’s cross with his foot and then proceeded to smash a shot past Tim Howard in off the bar.

The lead wasn’t to last long though as Evertons’ winger Bilyaletdinov produced a swerving effort from 25 yards out that left Van Der Sar rooted to the spot.

United looked incredibly lacklustre after that with Rooney finding it difficult to get into the game and dominate. It got worse for United as David Moyes’ team took the lead in the 76th minute.

Steven Pienaar produced a low cross from the left wing that substitute Dan Gosling got a foot onto to send the crowd wild.

Jack Rodwell ensured United would suffer their sixth league defeat of the season and heaped more pressure on them when he took on the United defence in the 90th minute and to wrap up the game. United will look to come back next week against Villa in the Carling Cup final.
