Man Utd 3 – 0 West Ham

United erased memories of Saturdays performance against Everton as they returned to within one point of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League. Wayne Rooney has had a habit of scoring goals with his head recently (five headed goals in the last seven games) and today was no different as he grabbed another brace in a comfortable 3-0 win against West Ham.

As per usual Sir Alex made some changes to his starting eleven with Ben Foster surprisingly picked in goal. Nemanja Vidic, Darron Gibson, Paul Scholes and Anderson also returned but there was no place for van der Sar and Rio Ferdinand in the squad possibly with Sundays Carling Cup final in mind.

Everton 3 – 1 Man Utd

Manchester United’s Premier League title challenge was dealt a major blow at Everton with a 3-1 win over the champions at Goodison Park.

United looked lethargic after their fighting mid-week victory against AC Milan and looked a shadow of that side as they fell to their first defeat in nine league games.

The result left United in second spot again, one point behind leaders Chelsea, who can will invariably beat Wolves later in the afternoon.

AC Milan 2 – 3 Man Utd

Despite the shock of conceding an early goal United recovered to take charge of the last-16 first tie against AC Milan.

However, Milan gave themselves a semblance of hope to progress further when Clarence Seedorf pulled a goal back in the final five minutes.

Before the game all the talk was about David Beckham taking on his former team-mates for the first time since leaving Old Trafford. All week Beckham had been very complimentary about United showing he will always be a Red at heart. The former Red Devils hero was named in Milan’s starting line-up despite being on the bench for his teams previous two games, while Rio Ferdinand returned to the visitors’ defence.

Aston Villa 1 – 1 Man Utd

United ground out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park tonight despite playing over an hour with a man short after Nani was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Stilian Petrov.

Nani’s dismissal could have cost champions United the chance of overtaking Premier League leaders Chelsea (who lost their match against Everton after former United player Louis Saha grabbed a brace).

Man Utd 5 – 0 Portsmouth

In a see-saw season for the title United reclaimed top spot in the Premier League emphatically crushing Portsmouth 5-0 at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney was again the orchestrator as he put United in front with his 23rd goal of the season. Anthony Vanden Borre’s then turned the ball into his own net to give United a comfortable lead going into half-time.

Michael Carrick’s shot looped up off Richard Hughes and beat David James for another own goal, before Berbatov added a clinical fourth and Marc Wilson volleyed into his own net (yes, that’s right three own goals in the game!) to complete the rout.

Arsenal 1 – 3 Man Utd

United narrowed the gap on League leaders Chelsea as the champions stormed to an impressive 3-1 win against title rivals Arsenal.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side stunned Arsenal with two stunning goals in four minutes in the first half at the Emirates and never looked like surrendering their lead.

Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia tipped Nani’s chipped cross cum shot into his own net before Rooney put the champions in cruise control with his 100th Premier League goal.

Park Ji-Sung added United’s third goal in the second half to allow United to close the gap to one point between Chelsea.

Rooney, yet again, showed the predatory instincts that make him, the most lethal forward in the world on current form, aided by Portugal winger Nani, who ran the Arsenal defence ragged with a superb display.
